Markwise helps teachers grade student work against their own rubric. It has no account, no backend server, no analytics and no advertising, and it makes no network connections.
Nothing. Your rubrics, student work, labels, suggested levels, grades and comments are stored only on your device. We never receive them.
When you ask for suggestions, the work is analysed on your device by Apple's on-device Foundation Models, part of Apple Intelligence. It is not sent to us or to any third party by Markwise. Before the AI reads a piece of work, lines that start with "Name:" and similar are removed, and the label you type for a student is never given to the AI. Suggestions are drafts that can contain mistakes; the teacher makes every grading decision, and totals are calculated by the app from the levels the teacher chooses. Markwise does not claim compliance with any particular education privacy law; it simply keeps the data on your device.
The camera is used only if you choose to scan a rubric or a piece of work, and photos are read only if you pick them. Text is recognised on your device and the images are not stored by Markwise or uploaded.
Markwise only shares something when you choose to, using the iOS share sheet (for example a feedback page as PDF, or class results as a CSV file). What happens next depends on the app you share to.
The Report button opens your email app with a short pre-written message that does not include any student work. Nothing is sent unless you send it.
Delete assignments, student work and rubrics inside the app, or delete the app to remove all of its data from your device.
If this policy changes, the update will be posted on this page.
