Subbed adds captions to your videos. It has no account, no backend server, no analytics and no advertising. The app itself makes no network requests.
Nothing. Your videos, transcripts, caption edits and settings stay on your device. We never receive them.
The speech in your video is turned into text on your device using Apple's speech recognition (SpeechAnalyzer on iOS 26 or later, otherwise Apple's on-device recognizer). Subbed requires on-device recognition, so your audio is not sent to us or to any third party by Subbed. iOS shows a generic permission message that mentions Apple; Subbed is set up so recognition does not use Apple's servers. Transcription can contain mistakes; check the captions before you share a video.
If you tap “Add a language” (iOS 26 or later), iOS itself downloads the speech language from Apple. Your videos and audio are not part of that download, and Subbed does not send anything to us.
Videos are read only when you pick them (Photos picker or Files). Working copies are kept temporarily in the app's private storage and removed when the app next starts. Exported videos are saved to your photo library only if you tap Save to Photos, or shared where you choose with the share sheet.
If this policy changes, the update will be posted on this page.
