Subbed only uses speech recognition that runs on your iPhone. On iOS 26 or later, tap “Add a language” on the first screen and iOS will download it. On earlier iOS versions, turn on Dictation and add the language in iOS Settings → General → Keyboard.
Speech recognition is not perfect, especially with accents, noise or music. Open the Text tab, edit the line, and the captions update. Pick the language that is actually spoken before you start.
The free version handles videos up to 2 minutes. Trim the clip in Photos first.
Exports re-encode the whole video, so longer clips take longer. Keep Subbed open while it renders, make sure there is free storage, and try again. You can cancel at any time.
